About
At PUCAR, we believe that technology — when designed for people and built as public infrastructure — can fundamentally improve how grievances are resolved and justice is delivered. The court-focused work of Open NyAI is a step in this direction. Using tools like Jugalbandi, an open-source conversational AI framework, and JIVA, an information retrieval system, the initiative is building AI-powered chatbots and information tools that improve how information flows within courts and to litigants.
These tools aim to unburden courts from routine processes, assist litigants in navigating their cases, and support grievance redressal systems with timely, reliable information. Open NyAI is also convening a community of builders and justice innovators — keep an eye out for the next Open NyAI Residency to join this growing ecosystem.
Jagrit, the AI Chatbot is available in two Indian languages, extendable to twelve languages, this voice-enabled assistance service empowers users to ask questions in their vernacular language and obtain context-specific legal guidance. Though built for information on domestic violence, Jagrit can be customised for any organisation needing accurate legal information on any topic. Click here to test it out!
